History
In 1967 Baldwin became the first all-girls school in Philadelphia to sponsor its own rowing
team and began to compete in 1971. During their inaugural year of competition, the team
won a Junior National Championship. Over the years Baldwin has competed in many
National Championships and have medaled at prestigious races such as the Philadelphia
City Championships and the Stotesbury Cup Regatta. Our most notable alumnae, Ruth
Davidon Rodgers, ’82, was an eight-time National Team member and represented the
United States at the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games. Many of our alumni have continued to
compete collegiately at schools including: Bucknell, Carnegie Melon, Cornell, Dartmouth,
Franklin and Marshall, Harvard, Hamilton College, Indiana University, MIT, Stanford,
Trinity College, UMass, U.S. Naval Academy, Union College, and Williams. We have also had
athletes on the USRowing Scholastic Honor Roll, which recognizes high school seniors who
have excelled in both academics and rowing.
